We OPPOSE Senate Bill 1 (House Bill 12), which would move many of the responsibilities of the Ohio State Board of Education to a cabinet position under the Governor and undermine the role of the State Board of Education.

We OPPOSED SB 178 in the 134th General Assembly and it did not pass. In the 135th Ohio General Assembly that began in January 2023, SB 178 has been reintroduced as SB 1, which would move many of the responsibilities of the Ohio State Board of Education to a cabinet position under the Governor and undermine the role of the State Board of Education. We strongly oppose the new SB 1.
